After a stellar collection at NYFW last September, Prabal Gurung is taking the next step in growing his eponymous label. The designer is focusing on finding a partner who can bring both capital and operational experience to his company.

In 2009, Gurung launched his namesake label, and it slowly blossomed into a highly respectable women's contemporary brand. High profile clientele include everyone from Sarah Jessica Parker to First Lady Michelle Obama. Gurung became a household name in 2013 when he collaborated with Target for the Prabal Gurung for Target collection.

Gurung, a graduate of Parsons The New School for Design, began his career at Cynthia Rowley where he worked for two years before he was design director of Bill Blass for five years.

He has received numerous awards for his own label including the Ecco Domani Fashion Award and CFDA Swarovski Award for women's wear.

Despite the multiple accolades and high praise from editors, Gurung hasn't received the business success he would like. The brand has a lot of potential to turn into a more profitable endeavor with the right direction, he just needs someone on his team who understands merchandising and product development.

While there is no denying Gurung's collections are stunning, they don't always translate into top sellers. A representative for Prabal Gurung did not immediately respond to requests for comment on Gurung's potential business plan or sales figures.

There is a trend in investing in contemporary brand's lately, so Gurung has selected a good time to try and seek an investor. Castanea Partners invested in his competitor Proenza Schouler earlier this year, and General Atlantic has invested in Alexander Wang. Now, who will step up to the plate and be Gurung's lucky investor of the hour?
