On top of restructuring changes, American Apparel has gone through recent executive changes. Martin Bailey, head of manufacturing for the company, just unveiled his resignation for the Los Angeles-based retailer.
Dated this past Tuesday, February 16, Bailey sent a letter of resignation to his employees. His position upon leaving the company was head of manufacturing, but previously Bailey had worked as president and vice president of operations for American Apparel. He also worked prior at Fruit of the Loom, American underwear company. Although he worked for American Apparel for 15 years, Bailey mentioned in his memo that he is leaving to pursue his own endeavors. “[It’s] time that I dedicated the last phase of my career to building my own company,” Bailey said in his letter, as reported by WWD.
Bailey’s note also mentions leaving on good terms with the company. His timing is due to the fact that the company has now settled into its own, after recently having emerged from bankruptcy. From the memo, his resignation seems to have nothing to do with the changes at American Apparel, but more for personal reasons. “I have been committed to remaining with American Apparel through its financial restructuring, and now I am confident that I leave you in the good hands of [chief executive officer] Paula [Schneider] and her management team,” said Bailey.
American Apparel just recently exited bankruptcy. Following its restructuring plan, the company has continued to make changes and alterations including closing a dye house in Hawthorne recently. Currently, the company is moving forward towards making itself profitable again.
