US retailer Macy's today announced the appointment of Maya Dukes as senior vice president, executive creative director, effective August 31, 2026. Dukes will report to Sharon Otterman, chief marketing officer at Macy's, and will oversee the company's creative strategy and brand expression across customer touchpoints.
For Dukes, the appointment marks a return to Macy's, having previously served as a senior graphic designer from 2001 to 2007. During her initial tenure, she built a foundation in creative storytelling, catalogue design and brand marketing. Dukes has more than two decades of experience leading creative organisations and designing customer experiences for consumer brands across loyalty, fashion, home and lifestyle sectors.
In her new role, Dukes will partner with marketing, merchandising and digital leaders to bring the Macy's brand to life across the full customer journey. Her focus will center on strengthening and reimagining the Macy's nameplate under the strategy known as Bold New Chapter.
“I am excited to welcome Maya back to Macy's. She brings the creative vision, customer-centric thinking and proven ability to build and lead high-performing creative organizations required to shape the next chapter of the Macy's brand,” said Otterman. “Her experience translating brand strategy into compelling storytelling, elevating the customer experience and modernizing the creative process will be critical as we strengthen Macy's for the future.”
Dukes most recently served as managing director, global brand, creative and agency operations at US airline Delta Air Lines, where she led enterprise-wide brand strategy, built the in-house creative organisation and oversaw major brand initiatives and partnerships with the Olympics, Team USA, SXSW and CES. She previously held creative leadership roles at financial technology provider Jack Henry & Associates, telecommunications conglomerate Comcast NBCUniversal, off-price retailer Tuesday Morning and home improvement retailer The Home Depot.
