Salvatore Ferragamo names menswear designer

Italian luxury fashion house Salvatore Ferragamo has named Guillaume Meilland as its new menswear ready-to-wear design director. His appointment finalises the reorganisation of the design departments into three areas, following the recent appointments of Fulvio Rigoni, who showcased his first collection as design director of women’s ready-to-wear in September, and Paul Andrew, who will be heading up the brand’s footwear design.

Meilland joins Salvatore Ferragamo from Lanvin, where he has served as a senior designer for menswear since 2008. Prior to that, he held various menswear design positions at Yves Saint Laurent and Cacharel.

“I am thrilled to be able to work for a brand as prestigious as Salvatore Ferragamo and with such important history,” said Meilland in a press statement. “This is a momentous challenge and I plan to draw on the brand’s history and heritage to create modern men’s collections that look to the future.”

The design reorganisation came after the departure of Massimiliano Giornetti last March, and Meilland, Rigoni, and Andrew will be sharing the design responsibilities of the luxury fashion house.

Meilland will present his first collection for the brand in January for autumn/winter 2017.
