Pandora and Dame Pat McGrath bring beauty and jewellery together in new collection
Danish jewellery brand Pandora is launching the Pandora x Pat McGrath collection this autumn, developed in collaboration with British make-up artist Dame Pat McGrath. The line features 17 charms and rings and translates the use of colour that made McGrath famous in the beauty world into jewellery. The collection is founded on the principles of personal style and self-expression.
For over 20 years, McGrath has been defining the looks on international catwalks and is considered a key driver of global beauty trends. She is, among other roles, the beauty editor-at-large for British Vogue.
Lips, hearts and make-up icons
The designs combine McGrath's signature glossy lips with Pandora's sparkling hearts and miniature versions of make-up icons. The colour palette is derived from McGrath's work, featuring red, purple and gold. The collection includes signet rings shaped like lips; charms with a glossy ombré enamel heart; dangling charms in the shape of beauty products; and lipsticks with crystal details.
There are also medallions with powerful mantras, a nod to McGrath's status as “Mother” of the make-up world. The pieces are designed to be combined and layered. The charms can be worn on necklaces, hoop earrings and bracelets, mixing different metals or in striking colour combinations.
Colour as a means of transformation
“This collection is the result of two creative visions coming together around one powerful idea: colour as a means of transformation. Inspired by textures, finishes and visual effects from the beauty world, we have applied materials in new ways to create surfaces with depth and emotion,” said Francesco Terzo and A. Filippo Ficarelli, creative directors of Pandora.
For McGrath, the move into jewellery is a logical one. “For me, make-up and jewellery have always been part of the same art form. I adorn the body with colour, light, crystals, glitter and pigment. Jewellery comes from that same creative instinct, but it is permanent. With Pandora, the two art forms I have always loved have come together in one language,” she said.
Campaign and launch
The accompanying campaign revolves around self-expression and the power of colour, featuring Ava Shipp, Chiharu Okunugi, Ali Dansky and Alton Mason. Red lips, nails and striking charms take centre stage, surrounded by the jewel tones associated with McGrath.
Photographer Sølve Sundsbø shot the campaign, Emma Wyman handled the styling and Willy Busfield created the video. Ryan Mitchell was responsible for the hair styling, while McGrath did the make-up herself.
To mark the launch, Pandora is organising a series of events at various locations worldwide, hosted by McGrath. The collection will be available worldwide from October 8.
