Bearpaw owner acquires Joybees to expand molded footwear business
Romeo & Juliette Inc., the parent company of Bearpaw, has acquired Joybees, adding the family footwear brand to a portfolio that also includes Pawz, Strive and Skuze. Financial terms were not disclosed in the announcement.
The deal expands Romeo & Juliette’s presence in molded footwear and is intended to strengthen its spring/summer business. Joybees specialises in lightweight EVA footwear for adults and children, with a range spanning clogs, sandals and casual styles. Its current offering includes lined clogs alongside warm-weather footwear.
Under its new owner, Joybees will have access to the group’s sourcing network, operational infrastructure and retail relationships. Romeo & Juliette said it sees scope to develop more fashion-led designs, introduce new silhouettes and expand distribution, including through retailers outside traditional footwear channels.
Product development and wider distribution
Tom Romeo, founder and chief executive of Romeo & Juliette, said the acquisition supports the company’s strategy of building a broader brand portfolio while preserving each label’s identity.
“Joybees represents an important step in that strategy, creating new opportunities for product innovation, expanded retail distribution and international growth,” Romeo said in the announcement.
Joybees president Sam Wright identified design and customer growth as priorities for the brand’s next phase.
“Our focus is on bringing fresh design and innovation to molded footwear, developing new silhouettes that differentiate the brand and expanding our reach to new consumers,” Wright said.
Founded by Romeo in 2001, Bearpaw remains the group’s flagship brand. While its range includes sandals and casual footwear, boots and slippers are central to its offering. The acquisition gives Romeo & Juliette another platform for expanding its spring/summer assortment, alongside an existing retail customer base.
