Google and Glance partner to bring interactive commerce to Android TV
US-based technology company Google has joined forces with Singapore-based personal shopping platform Glance to integrate artificial intelligence (AI)-powered product discovery and commerce tools into Android TV devices. The partnership will transform dormant television screens into interactive lifestyle and storefront surfaces across the US, India, and Japan.
The initiative utilizes Glance’s AI-first commerce models to convert ambient TV displays—traditionally active during off hours—into interactive spaces for lifestyle categories, including fashion, home décor, and travel. The underlying system links product discovery across mobile devices and televisions, supported by hundreds of retailer integrations.
Through features like ‘Shop the Look’, consumers can interact with curated outfits displayed on screen and complete purchases through participating retail partners. The platform also incorporates contextual lifestyle simulations and try-on visualisations powered by generative AI. The feature operates on an opt-in basis, allowing users to choose between the standard Google Backdrop or the Glance ambient experience.
“We are moving beyond the era of the 'dormant' screen,” said InMobi and Glance chief executive officer and founder Naveen Tewari. “By combining the scale of Google's Android TV ecosystem with Glance's AI-first commerce models, we are turning the living room into a space where inspiration meets intent. Whether it's fashion, home décor, or travel, we're making shopping and discovery seamless, immersive, and interactive”.
For Google, the integration expands the functionality of the Android TV platform into an interactive commerce hub. For Glance, an associate of tech firm InMobi backed by Google, Jio Platforms, and Mithril Capital, the agreement broadens its global distribution, building on existing carrier partnerships with Airtel and DIRECTV to reach additional households.
