Levi Strauss and M&S partner for Fashion Renewable Collaborative

US apparel brand Levi Strauss & Co. and UK retailer Marks & Spencer (M&S), in partnership with SE Advisory Services, the global consulting practice of France-based Schneider Electric, have launched the Fashion Renewable Collaborative (FRC). Announced during New York Climate Week on September 22, 2026, the initiative aims to help global fashion suppliers adopt renewable electricity through coordinated brand engagement and practical implementation support.

The collaborative invites fashion brands from across the sector to join the effort to streamline supplier decarbonisation. By modeling a shared approach to engagement, the program helps manufacturers access and implement renewable energy solutions at scale while reducing administrative burdens.

Addressing supply chain emissions at scale

Transitioning supply chains to renewable energy is considered one of the primary drivers of decarbonisation in fashion. Textile processing, including fabric mills and dye houses, accounts for more than half of the apparel sector's total emissions, according to the Apparel Impact Institute (AII).

Shifting manufacturing to renewable electricity represents roughly two-thirds of the industry's identified emissions-reduction potential, according to research from the World Resources Institute (WRI) and AII. However, suppliers frequently face obstacles, including fragmented demands from multiple brand clients, high costs, and market barriers.

M&S head of sustainability and materials in fashion, home and beauty, Katharine Beacham, noted that systemic change requires sector-wide cooperation. “Through our sustainability programme, 'Plan A', we are committed to becoming a net zero business across our value chain by 2040, and that means working with others to make the transition to renewable electricity easier for our supply partners,” said Beacham. “Building on the work already underway through 'Re:Spark', our supply chain decarbonisation programme, the Fashion Renewable Collaborative will provide practical support, resources and greater access to renewable electricity”.

Practical support and digital implementation

Unlike initiatives that focus solely on setting targets, the FRC provides suppliers with direct access to implementation tools, market guidance, and digital education. The program utilizes 'Resource Advisor+', an artificial intelligence platform developed by SE Advisory Services, to offer digital learning modules and track progress.

Participating suppliers receive guidance on procuring renewable energy solutions, including Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), Energy Attribute Certificates (EACs), on-site renewable generation, and energy storage. Nearly 500 supplier facilities have already registered through preliminary engagement programs.

Levi Strauss & Co. senior director of sustainability, Jennifer DuBuisson, emphasized the importance of direct supplier partnerships. “It has become abundantly clear that the most effective way forward on emissions reduction is working in partnership with suppliers,” stated DuBuisson. “The Fashion Renewable Collaborative enables greater support of suppliers that want to access or would like to increase use of renewable electricity but have not been able to so far”.

SE Advisory Services executive vice president, Steve Wilhite, added that helping suppliers execute targets is critical. “Many fashion brands have made their individual commitments. Now the focus must be on helping suppliers deliver against them,” said Wilhite.
