Macy’s opens new fulfillment centre in North Carolina
US department store giant Macy’s has opened a new customer fulfillment centre in North Carolina as part of continued efforts to enhance its supply chain network. Located in China Grove, the facility intends to expand the company’s reach, allowing for faster, more efficient service.
The site itself, said to be the largest to date, supports all product categories, spanning apparel and beauty to home and toys. At first, the facility will support customer fulfillment and store replenishment for the Macy’s nameplate, with plans to expand to further nameplates set for the next two years.
It is the third centre in the Macy’s fleet to introduce “high performance automation” and the first to operate an “advanced warehouse management system” that provides greater accuracy and flexibility, Macy’s said in a release. The decision to integrate such features comes as its initial two sites reported doubled productivity under automation.
In a statement, Tom Edwards, chief operating officer and chief financial officer for Macy’s, said: “The opening of our China Grove facility is a significant step in modernising our supply chain and elevating the customer experience across every channel – with faster deliveries, well-stocked stores and seamless service. With this investment, we’re building a faster, more efficient and agile network designed to meet our customers’ needs today and in the future.”
Macy’s added that it was simultaneously investing in training and upskilling as it continued to integrate new technologies and automation into its workflow.
