Men's Wearhouse has announced the appointment of Shane Smith to the board of directors at nonprofit organization Hire Hearos USA. Currently serving as the chief human resources officer and executive vice president for Tailored Brands, the parent company of Men's Wearhouse, Smith is set to leverage his years of experience in the retail industry in his new role.
Andrew Sandoe, CEO of Hire Heroes USA, said in a statement: "Shane Smith's appointment to our Board marks a significant milestone in our journey to empower Veterans and their families. His professional experience and commitment to community service perfectly align with our mission at Hire Heroes USA."
The men's specialty retailer is a vocal supporter of military veteran causes and shares many of the same values as the nonprofit organization. Smith, who previously held leadership roles at the Coca-Cola Company and the Harland Company, served on multiple boards of directors and is active with HR executive forums. Dedicated to acting in the service of others, Smith is a strong advocate for aiding US veterans and military members in succeeding in the civilian workforce.
"We are excited about the new perspectives and insights he will bring, enhancing our efforts to support those who have served our country," added Sandoe. Working as an executive sponsor of the Tailored Brands diversity, equity, and inclusion council, Smith noted he was honored to join the board of directors at Hire Heroes USA.
"It has been a pleasure to work with the Hire Heroes USA team across our Company's partnership and see firsthand the positive impact they have on Veterans' lives," said Smith in a statement. "I am truly appreciative of the opportunity to further support their work in this new capacity."
Men's Wearhouse noted that Smith's background in promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion will significantly benefit Hire Heroes USA's projects. According to the retailer, Smith's commitment to community work makes him an essential contributor to expanding the organization's reach and effectiveness.
News of the appointment follows Men's Wearhouse's donation of 6.5 million USD to Veteran groups as part of its 2023 "Threads of Valor '' initiative, supporting service members and their families. The initiative includes the extension of the men's wear retailer's six-year alliance with Hire Heroes USA, notably as the inaugural sponsor of the Junior Enlisted Program (JREL). Since its launch in January 2023, the program has assisted over 3,600 junior enlisted clients, leading to 2,000 confirmed hires.
