Zumiez second quarter revenue declines on US softness
US specialty retailer Zumiez Inc. (Zumiez) has reported a 2.5 percent decrease in net sales to 209 million dollars for the second quarter ended August 1, 2026, compared to 214.30 million dollars in the second quarter of the previous fiscal year.
Comparable sales for the 13-week period fell 2.1 percent. Net loss for the second quarter totaled 2.70 million dollars, or 0.17 dollars per share, compared to a net loss of 1.00 million dollars, or 0.06 dollars per share, in the prior-year period.
For the six-month period ended August 1, 2026, total net sales rose 0.9 percent to 402.30 million dollars from 398.60 million dollars in the first six months of fiscal 2025. First-half comparable sales increased 0.7 percent. Net loss for the six-month period widened to 16.00 million dollars, or 1.00 dollar per share, compared to 15.30 million dollars, or 0.88 dollars per share, in the same period last year.
US market weakness weighs on performance
Performance during the quarter was dragged down primarily by softer demand in the company's domestic market.
“Second quarter results came in below last year driven by weaker performance in the US, which was primarily driven by continued softness in footwear as well as lower traffic levels,” said Zumiez chief executive officer, Rick Brooks. “The decline in the US business was partially offset by continued growth across our other regions, underscoring the strength and diversification of our global business.”
Brooks noted that back-to-school trading trends mirrored second-quarter results. The US remained the toughest performing region following two consecutive years of low double-digit comparable store sales growth during the same period, while international markets recorded comparable sales gains.
Financial outlook for Q3
Trading momentum remained negative entering the third quarter. For the 37-day period ended September 7, 2026, net sales fell 4.3 percent compared to the matching prior-year period, with comparable sales down 3.5 percent.
For the third quarter ending October 31, 2026, Zumiez projects net sales to range between 222 million dollars and 226 million dollars, with earnings per share expected between 0.00 dollars and 0.10 dollars.
For the full fiscal year 2026, the company plans to open approximately five new stores in North America while closing roughly 16 locations, comprising 10 in North America and six internationally.
