New timeline, larger collective: NY Fashion Tech Lab revises model for upcoming edition
NY Fashion Tech Lab is updating its offering for 2026. The non-profit, founded in 2014 by Springboard Enterprises and specialising in platforming women-led B2B fashion technology startups, is stepping into the new year with a revitalised structure, ushering in evolution to adapt to needs of the industry.
While the organisation’s mission is to remain intact – connecting early- to growth-stage startups with retail executives through set programming – for 2026, the Lab is building on efforts to foster an environment of collaboration, introducing a revised model that reflects shifting industry priorities and a growing demand for innovation across retail.
Much of the shifts revolve around a lengthened timeline, designed to give partners more time to sign on, collaborate and preview startups. Change can also be seen in the widening scope of what fashion tech actually entails, and the sectors from which such technology can benefit.
As a result, for its 2026 edition, NY Fashion Tech Lab will broaden the number of participating startups, expanding the range from the current six to ten to between 16 and 20. This enlarged number will form what is now called “The Collective”, an update to the programme’s traditional cohort model.
Following the application process, selected finalists will present to retail and brand partners during one of two sessions scheduled for April or June 2026. Those chosen will make up The Collective, participating in curated sessions, meetings and programming with the Lab and its partners.
All of those that make the final cut will be showcased in an Experiential Event, the first of its kind for the programme. Due to take place in New York City in September, 200 retailers, brands, investors and press will be invited to view demonstrations by the startups, garnering an overview of the current landscape of fashion tech.
In a statement to FashionUnited, Jackie Trebilcock, the programme’s managing director, said: “Our goal with the 2026 Collective is to create more opportunities for dialogue and collaboration between B2B retail tech startups and retail leaders as the industry continues to evolve.”
