Shakespeare, Dante and Marc Chagall served as the inspiration for Valentino's SS15 Haute Couture collection, which was shown in Paris on Wednesday.
The romance and storytelling was evident throughout, with Pierpaolo Ciccioli and Maria Grazia Chiuri’s offering lavish details including gauzy fabrics, velvets, and exquisite embroideries.
In practice that came out as a strong Russian influence in some of the folkloric patterns and pieces in gilets, pinafore dresses and peasant blouses. Also seen were corsets, both embroidered and transparent, in silk and lace.
Valentino's design duo Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pierpaolo Piccioli were in a romantic mood, with tulle gowns and flowers appliquéd to rough-hewn linen. While the Russian theme might be more synonymous with winter, their lightness was apparent.
Let's see if this collection will have the same effect on the high street as those of their other seasons.
