London - Fans and admirers of Karl Lagerfeld can breath a sigh of relief, for the German designer, also known as the 'Kaiser', has no plans of retiring anytime soon.

Speculation that Chanel Cruise show, set to take place in Cuba next month, could possibly be the last catwalk show hosted by Lagerfeld first broke out on Wednesday, when a 'fashion insider' revealed to Page Six that he was slated for retirement. Lagerfeld, who has been at the creative helm of Chanel for 33 years, was said to be "really tired", "not doing well" and "ready to stop" according to a source who spoke to the New York Post's gossip column.

With the designer set to celebrate his 83rd birthday this September, according to his biographer Alicia Drake (the offical website Karl.com states he will be turning 78), some may think that a retirement is not too farfetched . However, Chanel has stepped forward and firmly denied all rumours. "The rumours that Mr. Lagerfeld is to stop designing collections and the Cruise Collection show in Cuba will be his last are unfounded," said a spokesperson from the French fashion house to FashionUnited.
