Aritzia to open debut store in Alabama, as US revenues increases 54.5 percent in Q1 2027
Canadian retailer Aritzia has opened its debut store in Alabama, as its expansion push across the US continues to fuel its growth.
The new store, located at 214 Summit Boulevard in The Summit, a shopping center in Birmingham, is in line with Aritzia's established store concept. It features an atelier-inspired styling area with curated artwork and 20th-century European furniture, with style advisors on hand to help customers browse Aritzia’s assortment of exclusive labels, including Wilfred, Babaton, Golden, Tna, The Super Puff and Sunday Best.
The opening of Aritzia’s first-ever Alabama location comes on the back of strong financial results. In the first quarter of fiscal 2027, ending 31 May 2026, Aritzia reported net revenue up 43.4 percent to 951 million Canadian dollars, with comparable sales up 35.1 percent.
US net revenue rose 54.5 percent to 638.1 million CAD, comprising 67.1 percent of the total. Net income climbed 176.6 percent to 117.3 million CAD, gross margin expanded 310 basis points to 50.3 percent, and the company increased its full-year forecast to between 4.55 and 4.75 billion CAD.
Much of the retailer’s strong performance in the US is linked to ongoing investments in marketing and store openings in new markets, as brick-and-mortar stores help drive online demand. “Notably, our digital business gained significant momentum, with net revenue growth accelerating to 56 percent, while the United States remained our largest growth market,” said Jennifer Wong, CEO of Aritzia, in a statement.
Birmingham is one of three new US cities Aritzia opened in this quarter, alongside New Orleans and St. Louis. The retailer currently operates 143 boutiques across North America, 76 of them in the United States, and has identified more than 180 potential store sites in the US that meet its criteria, executives said on the company's earnings call.
Aritzia plans to open 12 to 13 new boutiques in fiscal 2027, with 11 to 12 in the US. New stores in America are recouping their capital investment in under a year, ahead of the company's 12 to 18 month target. “Importantly, our strong momentum has carried into the second quarter of Fiscal 2027 as we consistently deliver against our three strategic growth levers - geographic expansion, digital growth and increased brand awareness,” added Wong.
“We also continue to invest in world-class infrastructure to ensure we remain well-positioned to capitalize on our long runway for growth in the United States and beyond.”
