Primark enters 21st market with flagship store launch in Qatar
Irish fashion retailer Primark has expanded its Middle Eastern footprint by opening its first store in Qatar, situated in Doha Festival City. The launch, executed in partnership with retail franchise operator Alshaya Group, marks the brand's 21st international market globally.
The entry follows expansion into Kuwait in 2025, as well as openings in the UAE and Bahrain earlier this year.
The new flagship location spans over 52,000 square feet across three floors. It offers the retailer's assortment of apparel and everyday essentials, creating over 400 positions in the region. Opening day events featured customer activations, giveaways, and entertainment.
Primark chief executive officer Eoin Tonge commented: “It’s been a significant first year for Primark in the region, and we’ve been excited by the response from customers as we’ve grown our presence. Today’s opening in Qatar builds on that momentum and marks the milestone of our 21st market globally. Together with Alshaya Group, we’re continuing to bring Primark to new places and new customers, with a second store in Qatar to follow early next year.”
Kuwait-based Alshaya Group chief executive officer John Hadden noted: “As we continue our partnership with Primark to bring the much-loved brand to the region, we are really proud to open our sixth store in our fourth country in the region – in just a year. The response to the first Qatar store has been amazing - thank you to all our customers who joined us at the opening, and to our partners at Al Futtaim, as we continue our exciting journey with Primark.”
The retailer plans further expansion across the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC). A second Qatari location is scheduled to open in Villaggio Mall early next year. Additionally, a second Kuwait store will open at Aventura Mall early next year, followed by the company's debut in Saudi Arabia scheduled for March 2027.
