As NYFW SS27 concludes and the fashion spotlight shifts to London, a clear picture is emerging of the key trends that defined New York. In the wake of the fur ban, designers are turning to fringe to deliver the three-dimensional depth, movement and tactile luxury that fur once provided. From raw, shredded hems to sleek, architectural strands of silk and fiber-optic threads, fringe is being reimagined in increasingly sophisticated ways.

After seasons dominated by ‘quiet luxury’ and pared-back basics, there is growing demand for clothing with character and a more expressive point of view. During NYFW SS27, New York designers proved that fringe is no longer reserved for music festivals. Elongated tassels and floor-sweeping strands bring movement and drama to otherwise static silhouettes, offering an easy way to add impact and texture. Expect to see fringe embellishing dresses, belts, jackets and pants in SS27.
