Coach has opened its first-ever Coach Restaurant and Coach Coffee Shop at the Grand Indonesia Mall in Indonesia as the luxury brand marks its debut venture into the hospitality industry.
Inspired by Coach’s vision of Expressive Luxury, first revealed in 2022, the Coach Restaurant and the adjacent coffee shop mark the first of a series of dining experiences the brand is set to launch around the world in 2024 and onwards.
Created to facilitate deeper connections with consumers outside of products, the dining experience builds on the success of the “Coach Play” stores and recent pop-up locations that included hospitality as a strong point of focus. The debut Coach Restaurant, inspired by New York, is a reimagined classic New York steakhouse. The interior includes references to the brand’s heritage, while the menu seeks to bring the spirit of New York City to Coach audiences around the world.
“The opening of our Coach Restaurant marks an extraordinary moment for Coach,” said Todd Kahn, CEO and brand president of Coach, in a statement. “It marks not only our fullest expression of hospitality to date but also shows our intention to create immersive experiences for our customers.”
Designed by Coach's Creative Director Stuart Vevers and William Sofield of Studio Sofield, The Coach Restaurant showcases signature leatherware shades like archival brown, gray, and black. The concept reflects Coach’s artisanal legacy through its blend of natural and industrial materials, such as bronze mirrors, steel staircases, terrazzo floors, and wood louvers hinting at its Southeast Asia setting. Drawing inspiration from NYC taxis, the interior boasts bistro-style booths and a ceiling-mounted taxicab replica, with hubcap decor and “Taxicab Yellow” accents enlivening the space.
“The Coach Restaurant was a truly exciting creative opportunity and marks a special moment in our history—one that champions the reimagination of our heritage and pushes the boundaries of what a fashion house can be through experiences that delight all five senses,” said Vevers in a statement. “It was really fun working with William Sofield to explore the visual language of Coach in a new immersive way. We were inspired by the spirit of our hometown of New York with its swagger and eclectic energy, as well as a playfulness that’s inherent to Coach. My vision was to create an atmosphere that feels imaginative and offbeat but also warm and inviting.”
Next door to The Coach Restaurant, the Coach Coffee Shop offers a twist on the classic New York deli, blending the brand's heritage with a modern vibe. It sports New York skyline wallpaper, serves signature diner favorites like pizza and soft serve, and boasts an industrial chic decor.
The opening marks the start of a new phase of interactive, sensory experiences from Coach, including the Coach Coffee Shop, set to expand in Japan and Malaysia. Additionally, the Coach Tabby Shop will debut globally in Australia and Asia this Spring, further embodying the brand's commitment to expressive luxury and authentic self-expression.
