Target Corporation has announced plans for its first-ever chain-wide denim recycling event.

Known as the Target Denim Take Back Event, shoppers are invited to bring their used, worn, and unwanted denim garments from any brand to one of its stores between August 4 and 10, repurposing and recycling. In return, shoppers will receive 20 percent of a new denim purchase with Target Circle.

"Our new Denim Take Back Event is an easy way for families to give their used denim a new life," said Gena Fox, Target's senior vice president of merchandising for apparel and accessories, in a statement.

"With back-to-school and college shopping top of mind for families, we're offering this 20 percent off Target Circle deal to make it even more affordable for our guests to refresh their denim wardrobes, while also doing our part to reduce waste and keep used denim out of landfills."

Shoppers can donate up to five denim items, in any condition to one of Target's nearly 2,000 stores across the nation. After dropping them in marked boxed in-store, shoppers will receive a 20 percent off discount code for all denim apparel, which is redeemable between August 4 and 10.

Shoppers participating in the Denim Take Back Event who hold a Target Circle Card will receive an additional 5 percent discount on their denim purchase.

Target's Denim Take Back Event aims to address the increasing consumer interest in reducing waste and reinforces the retailer's commitment to sustainability. It also builds on the success of Target's Car Seat Trade-in Program, which has recycled 2.6 million car seats and 39.7 million pounds of materials since 2016.
