Japanese apparel retailer Uniqlo has partnered with The New York City Public Library as it expands its presence across the city through three new NYC retail openings this spring.
The new year-long partnership sees Uniqlo support The New York City Public Library and its mission to offer free access to books and programs that support learning by backing its youth-focused programming, such as the Library After Hours programme, to ensure it remains free and accessible to all New Yorkers.
“We are proud to partner with The New York Public Library, whose mission to make knowledge and opportunity accessible to all deeply resonates with us,” said Fuminori Adachi, CEO of Uniqlo USA, in a statement.
“New York City has inspired Uniqlo since we opened our first store here twenty years ago, through its creativity, diversity, and strong sense of community. As one of the city’s most iconic cultural institutions, The New York Public Library helps sustain that spirit, and this partnership reflects our commitment to supporting the spaces that bring New Yorkers together.”
The partnership comes as Uniqlo opens three new stores in the city, one in Bryant Park opening on March 6, one in Williamsburg opening on March 20, and one opening in Union Square on April 3. The three new stores are designed to spotlight the individuals, creativity, and neighborhoods that shape the city through a localised People campaign.
Each location will also offer exclusive UT offerings specifically designed for its neighbourhood with cultural partners, artists, and organisations such as the New York Public Library, the MTA, KAWS, the Andy Warhol Foundation, and Strand Bookstore.
Together with the “Made for All. Made for New York.” campaign, which highlights creatives from across the city’s cultural landscape, these initiatives celebrate New York’s artistic community while bringing local culture into wearable design.
